AMD shares slide as chip maker admits greater Spectre vulnerability

The vulnerabilities, known as Meltdown and Spectre, can allow passwords and other sensitive data on chips to be read.

Intel has been working with the industry to develop and distribute software and firmware mitigations for Spectre and Meltdown.

He concluded: "To be clear, we do not want to see the performance of our products impacted in any way, and we know our customers feel the same way".

"Nvidia is providing an initial security update to mitigate aspects of Google Project Zero's January 3, 2018 publication of novel information disclosure attacks that combine CPU speculative execution with known side channels", said Nvidia in its advisory.

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) issued an update for Windows that would protect users from Meltdown exploits.

"Things may change, however, if you're doing something more intensive with your computer - like performing a large number of complex calculations, or processing large amounts of data". The company is also deploying the measures to its Azure cloud computing platform.

Documents uncovered by the Wall Street Journal Intel says it has identified three issues in updates released in the past week for microcode, its software installed directly on the processor.

Updates were recently released for Windows 10 machines which will update automatically.
