College of the Canyons canceled classes at both its Valencia campus and Canyon Country campus after 5 p.m. today due to the Rye Fire.

It was first reported about 5 acres but quickly grew to 200 acres and the response was upgraded, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported. Evacuations are still in effect for the Westridge community in Stevenson Ranch and the Valencia Travel Village RV Resort.

Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School (SCVi) in Castaic is closed as a result of the fire burning off Hasley Canyon Road.

"Parents can meet up with officials to check out children at that facility", the city of Santa Clarita wrote on Twitter. Simi Valley Police Department issued a statement stating because of weather conditions and heavy winds the Rye Fire might reach their area Tuesday evening.

"Residents on the northern side of the City should be aware of this possibility and be prepared to evacuate if necessary", the statement said. The red dots are the most recent, detected at 12:40 a.m. PST December 6, 2017.

Chaminade's girls soccer match with Santa Barbara was also cancelled while Notre Dame, Burbank, Santa Clarita Christian and Moorpark were among schools that cancelled all outdoor sporting events. Officials are considering lifting some of the mandatory evacuation orders.

Rye Canyon Loop to Kelly Johnson Parkway is also closed.

The fire started early Tuesday morning in the Kagel Canyon area. About 775 firefighters are on scene.
