Helmut Marko: Red Bull have more balls than Ferrari and Mercedes

According to Eason, Mercedes are "half way to signing" Verstappen.

Between races, Hamilton took to the golf course with NBA star Steph Curry to blow off some steam.

Verstappen celebrated his 20th birthday the day before the race with a kid's grin and a chocolate cake, but his victory has started comparisons with seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher and triple-world champion Ayrton Senna. "They are great cars to drive and to be paired with Juan and Helio in an endurance event is going to be a lot of fun".

He wasn't too disappointed after Malaysia.

His pass on Hamilton was deep into the braking zone and while it was precise and seemingly measured, that might not have been the case had Hamilton tried to force him wide.

Marko added that this has been a tough season for the Dutchman: "It was difficult. We'll try to change that".

Vettel then swept through the field and was on Ricciardo's tail towards the end of the race only to pull back after his tyres went off.

Similarly to June's Azerbaijan Grand Prix - a race that saw Ricciardo take an unlikely victory in chaotic circumstances, Marko acknowledged that Red Bull pounced on good fortune; both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen suffered with turbo problems, all but eliminating the potential of a Ferrari victory.

But one and three was more than acceptable.

Red Bull have been rising of late. Red Bull also won four constructors' championships during their five-year partnership.

The two teams are believed to be offering the Red Bull driver £20million-a-year to join them in 2019. The German driver has complained about Verstappen's sometimes reckless driving, particularly after the Mexico and Brazilian races last year.

"Verstappen has a longer contract", Marko said.

"There is a new procedure in the wind tunnel and we are not even finished developing this car", said the Austrian. One fan was clapping enthusiastically with a pair of Dutch clogs.

Montoya and Dane Cameron have been confirmed for Penske's Acura DPi program next year, Castroneves was confirmed earlier Wednesday and Ricky Taylor has been strongly linked to the second car as well.
