The start of the third set saw a good returning from both, with 7 break points in the first 4 games. As he headed to the sideline for the changeover, though, Murray limped, bothered by a sore left hip.

Roger Federer is here once more, back in a Wimbledon final for the 11th time, back on the verge of an eighth championship at the All England Club, more than any man has collected in the storied, century-plus history of the place. Long a defender of women's tennis among men's players, he grew rankled at a question that began by mention of Querrey's becoming "the first U.S. player to reach a major semifinal since 2009".

Serena Williams has declared her love for Andy Murray and said all female athletes should back the British tennis player after he called out a reporter's 'sexist' comment. Djokovic's elbow was massaged by a trainer during a medical timeout after the opening set. "There was nobody better in the past". And, now firmly embedded in the top 25, Querrey becomes the only active American man to reach a Grand Slam semi. 2014 US Open champion defeated Sam for the 5th time in as many matches, but it was never easy, just like today.

The tall Croat had dropped just nine points in 78 first serves and not a one of the 19 in the final set. and he ended with 70 winners to 21 unforced errors.

If Federer wins on Sunday - and he has lost only one of his seven previous matches against Cilic, who will be playing in his first final here - he will be the oldest men's singles champion at Wimbledon in the Open era.

It was a valiant fightback from the American, who had trailed 4-1 earlier in the tiebreak.

Cilic finally managed the first break of serve in the second set, and then went up another break in the third.

The tennis he and Querrey had produced had drawn gasps of admiration, and was a great advertisement for big, old-school power grass tennis.

Levelling the match proved a mere formality from there and the momentum stayed with the Croatian as he continued to apply pressure on Querrey with a string of booming groundstrokes.

"I was able maybe for 30 minutes to play with some pain that was bearable, let's call it that way".

"Last year definitely kind of gave me a new boost that I could do it", Querrey said. "The big guys, the big servers are coming through", he said.

Jonas Bjorkman: I think we had very high hopes going into Wimbledon since Marin had such a great run on the clay, which was his most consistent clay season and finished off with his best performance in Paris, he gained a lot of confidence out of that one.

But he's won three straight five-setters.

"I spent about two hours on the treatment table in between the warm-up and the match to make me fit".

His serve speeds slowed in the latter stages Wednesday.
